Principle of stainless steel passivation

The principle of passivation treatment we can use the film theory to explain, that is, the passivation is due to the effect of metal and oxidizing medium, when the metal surface will generate a very thin (about 1nm), dense, good coverage performance, can firmly attached to the metal surface of the passivation film. This membrane exists as a separate phase, usually a compound of oxygen and metal. It plays the role of separating the metal from the corrosive medium completely, preventing the metal from contacting the corrosive medium directly, so that the metal basically stops dissolving and forms a blunt state to achieve the purpose of anticorrosion and rust prevention.
