More About Ferritic Stainless Steel

Ferritic stainless steel is an iron-chromium alloy with chromium content WCr=10.5%~30%, carbon content Wc<0.20%, and the structure is mainly ferritic stainless steel. The structure of steel is body-centered cubic crystal, which is magnetic. This type of steel can neither be hardened by heat treatment nor strengthened by cold working. 

Among all kinds of stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel has the highest thermal conductivity and smaller coefficient of linear expansion, and its thermal conductivity and expansion characteristics are similar to those of ordinary carbon steel. 

Ferritic stainless steel has good strength and cold forming properties, but poor toughness in greenhouse and low temperature, high plastic-brittle transition temperature, and notch sensitivity. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, its high temperature strength is poor; Under the condition of low temperature and large section size, its toughness is low. According to the level of chromium content in the steel, ferritic stainless steel is divided into three categories: low chromium, medium chromium and high chromium.
